About

Writing and photography have been life-long interests, which reached a peak in 1988 when they became a full-time freelance activity. I found that combination of skills appealed to many commissioning editors because it unified supply in one professional. I took pride in producing copy and photography, which required very little further work. Accuracy is paramount in all I do.
In 2010, I retired from full-time commissioned work, scaled back my commitments, and now enjoy my photography without commercial pressures. My writing is mostly, but not entirely, for charity. Garden and plant photography remains an ongoing and absorbing interest, but generally, as I grow older, I am specializing in subjects easily accessible from home. Armchair travel has largely replaced queuing at airports.
My photography could be classified, essentially, as illustrative, and it provides a visual complement to my writing. However, I try to make my pictures as pleasing as possible by paying particular attention to colour fidelity, tonal range, composition, and content.
Noting that smartphone photography has mostly replaced the conventional kind I enjoy, I decided to purchase a smartphone purely to inspire younger members of my family. I might include some offerings in my gallery as an experiment.
Please feel free to contact me on any photographic matter relevant to my pictures published here on my website. Note, however, that I no longer undertake commissioned work.
All words and pictures shown on my website are copyright and require my permission for use elsewhere.
Thank you for your interest.
